The Local Universe with High Resolution X-ray Imaging: From Galactic Massive Star Forming Regions to Nearby Active Galaxies

It is crucial to improve our understanding of "feedback" in the cosmic evolution and evaluate the impact of starburst and active nuclei driven outflows on galaxy evolution observationally. I will first briefly review recent progress in X-ray imaging of the "mini-starburst"---Galactic massive star forming regions in the context of star formation and cluster formation. Then I will present the latest results from the CHandra survey of Extended Emission-line Regions in nearby Seyfert galaxies, which offers a unique opportunity to examine feedback in action in much greater detail than at high redshift. In particular, findings in the circum-nuclear regions of nearby archetypal Seyfert galaxies and merging systems will be discussed in detail.
