Motivation
The Telescope Access Program (TAP) was started in 2011 to provide access to international optical-infrared telescope facilities to astronomers based in China. TAP currently allocates time on four telescopes: the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT), the Palomar 5.1m (P200), the MMT, and the Magellan telescopes. TAP is designed to provide China-based principal investigators (PIs) access to facilities that allow them to carry out their science programs, train students and postdocs, and initiate international collaboration. TAP has been running for one year, and the goals of this workshop are:
Participation
We invite participation from all astronomers interesting in learning more about TAP, and particularly those who are already using the TAP facilities or plan to propose. This workshop will be a forum for people to learn about the facilities and the science being done, have their questions answered, and to discuss new observational projects with their colleagues in advance of the first proposal deadline. Junior-level astronomers are especially encouraged to attend.
We have scheduled the workshop to fall after the NSFC grant deadline and before the March 30th 2012B TAP proposal deadline. The preliminary program web page will be updated as people register. The workshop will be a good place to discuss proposals to be submitted to TAP just 2 weeks later.
How to register
If you are interested in attending, please email the following information to telescope.access.program@gmail.com with Subject: "TAP Workshop" by March 9th:
