Polarized radiation from protoplanetary disk

It is generally expected that magnetic fields play a crucial role in the dynamics and evolution of young star disks. Polarized sub-mm/mm emission is employed to trace the putative magnetic field. However, an alternative mechanism for producing millimeter emission based on self-scattering has been discovered. I will discuss how this potential alternative changes our interpretation on polarized radiation from protoplanetary disks and some related aspects like grain growth and grain alignment.
